Most frequently asked questions and answers regarding Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into superficial veins. The sclerotherapy solutions causes the vein to scar close and collapse. The collapsed vein is resorbed into local tissue and its appearance fades over a few weeks. The needle used is very small and injected superficially, meaning the patient experiences very little to no pain.
Upon arrival at your appointment, you will receive a full consultation discussing what your goals are after sclerotherapy. The skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic. Using a very thin and small needle, the sclerotherapy solution is injected into superficial spider veins. During the procedure the veins will disappear, but then immediately return darker and looking like a bruise. Over the course of a few weeks these areas heal and the veins disappear. Most people find the procedure very tolerable and easy.
